Nowadays, everything that filming a perfect steady video requires is attaching a gimbal to your phone and pushing the power button. However, it is a more complicated task to choose the best handheld gimbals for iPhone or Android that will make your filmmaking dreams come true. The variety of gimbals available on the market makes this choice even more intricate.
Handheld gimbals manufacturing companies are producing new devices every year. They all seem pretty much the same: decent stabilization quality, similar shooting modes, ergonomic design. Not only are there many gimbals for iPhone and Android, but there are also a vast majority of their manufacturers.
Some companies are known well and have an excellent reputation in the market for professional filmmakers. Yet, some manufacturers are new to the business. Of course, reading another review on the web could always be an option to get to know the product better; however, they do not always help.
Sometimes it is not possible to understand whether one of the known handheld gimbals is good for you until you actually buy and test it. That is why I thought that making some kind of a guide would help you choose your best device.
Picking up the best gimbal was not an easy task for me, either. Even after I had reviewed dozens of handheld gimbals, I still find it complicated to choose the best one to use with your iPhone or Android device. I am also aware that different people have different preferences and that some filmmakers cannot afford expensive devices.
That is why I made a list of the best handheld gimbals for iPhone and Android. I broke it up into a few categories, suitable for all different types of professionals. From this article on RightChoice, you are going to learn about the top-7 handheld gimbals in different categories. From this article, you are going to learn about the best cheap gimbal, the best gimbal for technically mind-oriented persons, the best device designed for bloggers, the best stabilizer with a wireless charger, the best gimbal for cinematographers, and the best device generally.

Why Would One Purchase An iPhone Gimbal?
Before we even start talking about the gimbals and their qualities, I want to explain why all filmmakers need to consider purchasing a stabilization device compatible with a smartphone.
Smartphone Video Quality
The world of filmmakers has changed significantly when smartphones, featuring excellent cameras, have hit the market. The quality of video made by a few smart devices, such as the iPhone 11, Google Pixel, and Samsung Galaxy S20 is seriously impressive. Streamers, bloggers, and some filmmakers no longer need to use their massive DSLR cameras to shoot the content. Instead, they could comfortably use their smaller size smartphone and still get a great 4K video.
It is surprising; yet, it is true. Just a couple of years ago, we could not imagine that we would be using our phones for a professional shoot. Nevertheless, it is happening and we all realize the need to find the best handheld gimbals compatible with our smartphones.
Buttery Smooth Video Filmed With Your Phone Gimbal
Even though most modern smartphones have a built-in stabilization system, it is still not possible to shoot a stable video on the move even with the most advanced model of an iPhone or Samsung. This is what you might need a gimbal for.
Simply mount your device to a gimbal and get a perfect buttery smooth video even while performing activities. The combination of a relatively small (in comparison to a DSLR camera) smartphone and a gimbal makes it possible to make impressive videos even when biking, skiing, running.
If you need a perfectly smooth video, you should consider one of the 3-axis handheld gimbals. Some of them can remove almost all of the video noises, while others are marketed as the devices that can eliminate the video shakes completely.
They use a complex technology that tracks your phone moves and transfers the information to special microchips, hidden in the gimbal. With all three axes involved in the process, your phone gets back to a perfectly stable position within seconds.
In addition to this, the handheld gimbals are extremely user-friendly and ergonomic. You just need to connect your phone to a gimbal and push the power button. Most of the gimbals are manageable intuitively.
Therefore, if you are a blogger, a beginning videomaker, or simply a person who likes making quality videos for your social media, you definitely should consider purchasing one of the handheld gimbals. Those devices are affordable, easy-to-use, and they provide a superior stabilization quality.
Even The Best Handheld Gimbals for Phone Are Easy To Afford
Just a few years ago, smartphone handheld gimbals were considered serious pieces of equipment due to their high cost. My first acquaintance with the world of mobile gimbals took place back in 2016. Back then, one had to pay at least $300 to get a decent device.
I did a lot of research in the market, analyzing different handheld gimbals, their main features, advantages, and shortcomings. I did not want to waste my money. Finally, I chose DJI Osmo Mobile. I did not make a mistake – the DJI original model is still a great stabilization device.
However, those times are gone, and now handheld gimbals became a much more affordable product. You could easily find a good stabilization device for a price of around $100. You can read a lot of reviews on RightChoice about those gimbals.
Despite the drastic price decrease, the modern gimbals are doing a much better job than their predecessors. Therefore, now is the best time for purchasing one of those great stabilization devices. Let’s talk about each stabilizer in my best handheld gimbals selection in detail.
DJI OM4: One Of Best Handheld Gimbals Ever
Finally, we have reached a point in this article when we are going to talk about the device that I qualify as the best handheld gimbal out of all stabilizers currently available in the market. DJI OM4 has a lot of superior qualities. Let’s take a closer look at this gimbal.
- Magnetic mounting system
- Stabilization quality
- Foldable design
- Easy to use
- Strong battery
- More expensive than the competition
Who Is DJI OM4 For?
I strongly recommend this device to all filmmakers, who are going to use their gimbal on a day-to-day basis. The DJI OM4 is perfect in all senses: great stabilization performance, ergonomic design, the best app in the business.
DJI has done its best to make its users happy. It is easy to pack the gimbal and mount it to your phone, so you can concentrate on the most important thing – making the video. The magnetic attachment feature makes this gimbal the best – you no longer need to waste your time looking for the best way to connect your phone to the stabilizer. It is easy, simple, and quick.
The DJI OM4 features excellent compatibility with most models of smartphones. Its maximum payload is better than that of its predecessor. The maximum supported weight of up to 290 grams makes this gimbal a perfect fit for the latest models of iPhone and tablet-sized Android devices.
The gimbal manufacturers had made a special connection for accessories, such as tripods, for example.
Software-vice, the DJI Mimo application is compatible with iOS 10.0 or Android 6.0 and later versions.
What Is Movi Cinema Robot In General Terms?
DJI company used to be an important player in drone manufacturing a few years ago. However, now the company is mostly known by a wide audience of filmmakers as a big manufacturer of great smartphone gimbals.
The first original gimbal produced by the company, the Osmo Mobile, became a great success on the market for filmmakers due to its stabilization and ergonomics. In 2018, DJI became even more famous when the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 saw the world. The company surprised the users by making this gimbal very affordable – its recommended price was only $129 as opposed to the original gimbal’s price of $299.
One and a half years later, the next bestseller came out. This time, the company presented an innovative foldable gimbal that featured the same best qualities, but a very special design.
The company enjoyed standing out. Recently, they have introduced their new DJI OM4 gimbal with a unique magnetic phone mount design. You no longer have to struggle while attaching your phone to a stabilizer.
The new version of Osmo Mobile has improved motors. Other than that, the DJI OM4 is very similar to its predecessor, the Osmo Mobile 3. This, by the way, was my favorite gimbal stabilizer before I got acquainted with its follower that has now the title of the best handheld gimbal.
DJI Mimo: The Best Handheld Gimbals Software
The company’s new DJI Mimo application comes as a novelty released along with the DJI Osmo Pocket, replacing the previously popular DJI Go app. The software is available for both iOS and Android devices. It allows you to take photos, shoot immersive footage, and even do more advanced things.
Making time lapses, hyper lapses and slow-motion shots is another impressive feature of the app. The DJI has also introduced a novel tracking technology, ActiveTrack 3.0, which lets the app follow a person and easily track his or her movements. The DJI Mimo incorporates a lot of unique features that are not available on the other gimbal software. This makes the DJI app the best smartphone software in the market.
DJI OM4 Advantages 👍
With full confidence, I can say that I am enjoying shooting with this gimbal a lot. Its ergonomic design makes all moves natural, it does not feel bulky, and it is super comfortable to hold. The gimbal is very easy to use, everything can be done intuitively and does not take much time.
The gimbal is truly special due to its magnetic phone mounting design. Thanks to it, you can be shooting videos in one minute and simply take your phone off at another. DJI OM4 features the foldable design of its competitor, making this gimbal easy to carry along with you.
DJI OM4 features great stabilization performance. Its motor speed can be increased rapidly, which makes it possible to shoot fast-paced movements. They are not noisy, which means that the performance does not affect the audio. The OM4’s inbuilt 2450mAh battery lasts 15 hours, which is enough to shoot all day long and charge your phone at the same time.
Disadvantages and Weak Points 👎
The foldable design of this gimbal stabilizer has slightly affected its range of movement. The gimbal pan and tilt abilities are not as flexible as some other devices.
The price for the device has grown up to $149. DJI OM4 cannot be classified as an expensive gimbal, but there are a lot of options in the market available for less than $100.

Hohem iSteady X: Best Cheap Handheld Gimbal
Hohem iSteady X is a great stabilization device for those who are looking for a cheap gimbal. Available for only $69, it provides a superior stabilization quality, good ergonomics, and a nice build quality.
- Superior stabilization quality
- Compact design with a portable handle
- Extremely low weight
- Great value for money
- Not quite ergonomic design
- Buggy mobile application
Who Is iSteady X Ideal User?
Not only can the Hohem iSteady X satisfy the needs of those, who are looking for a budget-friendly gimbal. It has a lot of other attractive qualities. Even though its app is not great yet, this is a very good gimbal for pretty much any filmmaker.
The Hohem iSteady X has borrowed the qualities of the best handheld gimbals – DJI Osmo Mobile 3 and Zhiyun Smooth Q2. As a result, we have a very compact foldable gimbal that is available for a terrific price.
What Is It Compatible With?
The Hohem iSteady X is compatible with almost any smartphone. With its payload of 280 g and the maximum device supported width of 90 mm it is hard to think about any phone that would not fit it.
For gimbal stabilizer activation, you will need to make one extra step – to download the Hohem mobile application. It is not a problem at all, though. The app supports all newer Android and iOS devices.
What Is Hohem iSteady X In General Terms?
Hohem is a famous manufacturer of smartphone gimbals, mainly known for its high sales on Amazon. The company is known for producing very affordable handheld gimbals that are available even for the most modest filmmakers. At the same time, they provide the same qualities that are offered by top-notch gimbals. The combination of those factors makes Hohem devices a great choice for your next gimbal purchase.
What is relatively new about this manufacturer is the compactness featured in the Hohem iSteady X. The company realized the need for producing a device like this when the market became filled with smaller portable gimbal stabilizers. Hohem was very successful – the iSteady X is very small. In addition to it, it has a portable arm that can be easily dismounted, making this gimbal a foldable device.
In fact, the company managed to break the record – its gimbal weighing only 259 grams is widely known as the world’s lightest gimbal. It might not be as famous as DJI or Zhiyun devices, but it is a very good gimbal with a set of impressive features, available for a very attractive price.
Hohem iSteady X Advantages 😍
Of course, this stabilizer’s main advantage is its great price. Featuring decent stabilization performance, quite a strong battery that can last up to 8 hours, and an innovative foldable design, this gimbal provides a good value for money.
You should not be expecting this gimbal to serve professional filmmakers perfectly. Yet, it is one of the greatest handheld gimbals for bloggers or people, who enjoy making quality videos at home at a club level.
What Could Be Better? 🤔
While I realize that it is not making much sense to expect a $69 gimbal to be perfect, I simply miss the quality of DJI OM4 or Zhiyun Smooth X. The Hohem iSteady X is not so convenient to use: its handle is quite short and does not have comforting curves, which might exhaust you if you are going to film for a while.
The gimbal does not have a rear trigger, neither it is featuring any kind of fast-paced mode. These factors make it impossible to film any fast-moving objects since it is impossible to quickly increase the device’s motor responsiveness.
Last, but not least, the Hohem iSteady misses the USB-A port. This port enables you to use your gimbal as a power bank to charge your phone. Sometimes USB-A is very convenient during the shoot when you can be charging your phone simultaneously with filming. Most modern gimbals feature this quality, and I was disappointed to realize that this device did not have it. I believe it would be great to make extra use of the Hohem iSteady X’s great battery.

Moza Mini-Mi: The Best Wireless Charging Gimbal
The Moza Mini-Mi is the next gimbal that has made it to my list of the best stabilization devices featuring all qualities of top-notch stabilizers. Let’s look at it in more detail.
- Quite good stabilization quality
- Wireless charging
- Many features
- Easy control
- 8 shooting modes
- Great value for money
- Poor build quality
- Buggy app
- Its battery could be stronger
Who Is It For?
What makes the Moza Mini-Mi unique is the wireless charging setting. It also has an impressive number of shooting modes, which truly allow you to use your gimbal in multiple ways. While these add-ons might seem superfluous to some, the gimbal stabilizer also features an excellent stabilization performance. The Moza Mini-Mi is another affordable budget-friendly gimbal – you could purchase it for the price not exceeding $100.
Compatibility With Smartphones
The Moza Mini-Mi is quite flexible in terms of compatibility. It can support phones weighing up to 300 g with a maximum width of 92 mm. These parameters prove that the gimbal is compatible with all Android devices, including tablet-sized ones.
Not only is the Mini-Mi highly compatible with Android devices, but it also pairs up nicely with all models of iPhones. Its wireless charging option is only working when paired with the newest models that support this function (iPhone X and newer).
What Is Moza Mini-Mi All About?
The Moza Mini-Mi has more available features than you could have ever dreamed of. However, this handheld gimbal’s special selling point is its ability to charge the mounted smartphones wirelessly, even while shooting.
The gimbal weighs 534 grams, which makes it clear that the device does not justify its name. It is quite big and sometimes it might even seem clumsy. However, I do not think that a rather big size should be an issue; on the opposite, its thicker handle is even comfortable.
Even though the gimbal is not small, it features quite a compact 2100mAh battery. Despite its size, the battery is quite strong and can last up to 10 hours. This time should be enough for shooting almost all day long and charging your phone.
The gimbal is easy to manage. It has a joystick for inclining the gimbal both vertically and horizontally. There are a few buttons available to change the shooting modes easily. Moreover, the gimbal lets you flip the smartphone by pressing a designated button twice, transferring it to the selfie mode.
You can get all of this for under $100. Think of many other more expensive handheld gimbals that do not feature those qualities! Moza did a very good job packing their gimbal up with many great features, yet keeping the price low.
Moza Mini-Mi Strong Sides 😍
The main specialty of this gimbal – the wireless charging function does not work for everyone, since it is not supported by all smartphones yet. Nevertheless, this function may be extremely useful for those who have iPhone X and later models. The dying phone battery is a common problem that one faces when shooting on your phone mounted to a gimbal, so the wireless charging would help a lot.
Apart from them, Moza Mini-Mi offers great value for money. It has a decent stabilization quality, it is very easy to manage, and it supports all models of smartphones. Its ability to lock each axis separately makes it a great stabilization device that offers 8 filming modes.
Even though I truly do believe that Moza Mini-Mi is great (especially for its price of under $100), no gimbal in the world is 100% perfect. Of course, some things need to be improved in Mini-Mi too.
First, even though it provides a decent stabilization quality, you still can say that Moza Moni-Mi is a cheap gimbal. It is not that evident, yet, when you compare the zoomed-in footage made on Moza to the videos made on other more expensive devices, you can see the difference.
Second, its build quality is poor too, featuring many plastic elements that do not look or feel expensive. That is why I feel that it might not be safe to take this gimbal to some adventurous shoots.
The next weak point of this gimbal is its buggy mobile app. It is available for both iOS and Android devices; however, it does not work perfectly. Moza is a relatively new brand, so there is a hope that their app will get better as the updates come available. Nevertheless, for now, you will need to consider third-party apps.
This is a great gimbal and a runner-up in the competition for the best budget-friendly device. Nevertheless, Moza Mini-Mi cannot be the overall best gimbal, unless you really need its unique wireless charging function.

Zhiyun Smooth X: Best 2-Axis Smartphone Gimbal
The Zhiyun Smooth X is another gimbal that has made it to my list despite a somewhat worse stabilization performance. Let’s understand why I decided to mark the Smooth X as one of the best gimbal stabilizers.
- Built-in selfie-stick
- Tiny size
- Very affordable price
- Rather poor stabilization
- Compatibility issue – not good for bigger phones
Who Should Purchase This Device?
If you do not need a gimbal that will provide you with a superior stabilization performance, but looking for a cute and tiny device, it is right there for you.
The Zhiyun Smooth X is extra small; as a result, its maximum payload amounts to around 235 grams only. This significantly limits the compatibility of this device, making it an ideal fit only for smaller phones.
For example, if you own an iPhone 11 Pro Max, you might want to consider purchasing another gimbal. This phone will be pushing the Zhiyun Smooth X’s limits, thus, shortening its battery life.
Brief Introduction to Zhiyun Smooth X
Zhiyun did not seek to make the Smooth X a classic gimbal suitable for professional filmmakers or even YouTubers. The main audience of this gimbal is Instagram or TikTok bloggers that do not need buttery smooth footage. This is a tiny gimbal that can fit into the pocket. A social media celebrity can carry it along with him or her in case something post-worthy comes up.
The gimbal has a built-in selfie stick, whose maximum length can be extended up to10 inches. This feature can be a great use for bloggers, who often need to choose between a gimbal and a selfie-stick. The Smooth X can perform as both!
Nevertheless, when considering purchasing the Smooth X gimbal, you need to realize that this is only a 2-axes device. This means that the gimbal can lock pan and roll axes, while it cannot influence the tilt axis at all. This means that this gimbal will make shaky footage if you are using the stairs while shooting or jumping up and down. Its stabilization performance is limited.
Zhiyun Smooth X Advantages 😍
The Zhiyun Smooth X hardly has any competitors. Its marketing strategy is to target a very specific audience of TikTok and Instagram stars, who do not need a heavy gimbal stabilizer. Nevertheless, most of those bloggers need to make their video content smoother, and this is what this gimbal can help with.
With its market price of only $69 and a built-in selfie-stick, the Smooth X is a great and affordable gimbal for TikTok and Instagram bloggers.
Ground For Improvement 🤔
Even though the gimbal is not targeted at professional filmmakers, the stabilization performance is still the most important quality that one should be considering when choosing a gimbal. This a 2-axis gimbal, therefore, you cannot expect a superior stabilization. The difference might not be drastic, but it is still there.
The Hohem iSteady X is also available for just $69, but it is featuring a much better stabilization quality. Nevertheless, you probably should choose the Zhiyun Smooth X if you really need that selfie-stick or tiny size.

Zhiyun Smooth 4: Best Handheld Gimbal For Techies
The Zhiyun Smooth 4 provides as good stabilization performance as other top-notch gimbals such as DJI OM4 or Osmo Mobile 3. Nevertheless, the device was not qualified as the best gimbal in all categories. Let’s dig in to find out why.
- Superior stabilization
- Buttons that enable you to control the gimbal not using the app
- Too complicated control panel
- Not so ergonomic
Who Should Purchase Zhiyun Smooth 4?
The Zhiyun Smooth 4 is a great gimbal for videographers, who have a more technically oriented mindset up. For other people, the gimbal’s management panel might seem a bit confusing, and here is why.
The gimbal stabilizers feature many buttons that other devices simply do not have. It might be convenient for some, as you do not even need to open an app on your phone to perform most of the operations with your gimbal. However, other people, who do not like to get technical, might find the system quite confusing and not convenient.
The Zhiyun Smooth 4 can support the phones with a total weight of 210 grams, which makes it impossible to use it in combination with heavier or larger smartphones. It might be quite disappointing since this limitation means that the gimbal should not be mounted to the latest models of iPhones, which have the best cameras and can make 4K videos.
Unfortunately, those are not just words. The testing has proved that the gimbals motors are overworked by iPhone XS Max, whose weight is 208 grams. It caused problems with balancing and affected the battery performance. It does not make sense for you to purchase this gimbal if you are the owner of an iPhone 11 or 12. The Smooth 4 is not compatible with many Android devices, either.
Zhiyun Smooth 4 Summary
Despite its limited compatibility, the Zhiyun Smooth 4 is one of the company’s best gimbals presented on the market. It is also one of Amazon’s bestsellers, which earned this gimbal a lot of reviews and feedback. The Zhiyun manufacturer’s long history has earned it an excellent reputation as a company producing cheap, yet good stabilization devices.
This gimbal is for those videographers, who enjoy managing their gimbals with the help of buttons placed on the control panel. Smooth 4 features a lot of buttons – you can change the shooting modes, turn on the flash, flip your phone, control the exposure without using a smartphone app. Those were only a few examples of what you could do using the buttons.
Therefore, the Zhiyun Smooth 4 is not a simple tool that you could use right after purchasing it by simply hitting the record button. In fact, it is a quite complicated filmmaking tool that also happens to have stabilization qualities.
This means that you will need to be an experienced video maker or be eager to learn a lot to be able to use this gimbal efficiently. It does provide a user with a lot of opportunities, but it would be useless if you do not know the theory.
Purchasing the gimbal, you are also getting a small but useful tripod, which is good for making panorama shots and time lapses. I think that it is a great idea to use this tripod as a grip extension when holding the Smooth 4 upside down to make the low-angle shots.
It is highly recommended to use the Zhiyun companion smartphone application while using this gimbal. You can easily connect it via Bluetooth. The thing is that most of the Smooth 4’s superior control features will only work when filming using this app. The ZY mobile application is very good, as it features all video and phone modes that are available on the Osmo Mobile 2’s DJI Go app.
However, if you do not enjoy using the ZY app, there is a solution. Zhiyun has a special partnership with the FiLMiC company, and all their gimbals are completely compatible with the Filmic Pro application. This is premium software that features even more advanced settings for serious filmmakers and YouTube bloggers.
The gimbal has three filming modes:
- Pan-follow. In this mode, the gimbal follows the objects moving left and right, keeping the horizon steady.
- The following. The mode enables the gimbal to follow any movements that are made. Nevertheless, the gimbal can eliminate all noises and shakes in the video.
- All-locked. The gimbal keeps your smartphone camera looking in one direction only.
There is one more extra mode that you could activate by holding up and down the special trigger that is located on the handgrip. The Phone Go mode allows you to increase the motor responsiveness quickly so that the gimbal could follow any fast-moving objects. You do not always need to capture any fast-paced actions, but when you do, it is nice to have this option available.
Zhiyun Smooth 4 Advantages 🤩
I found this stabilizer to be a great gimbal. Featuring many advanced settings for professional filmmakers, it enables you to choose an ideal set-up for your next shot. It is not a simple gimbal for amateurs it serves as a serious piece of equipment.
I also found very useful the fact that the Smooth-4 has a modern USB-C standard, which means that you no longer need to carry the Micro USB cable with you all the time. This is not a significant point, but it should be added to this devices’ pros list.
The next impressive feature about this gimbal is its strong battery that can last up to 12 hours. The competition might be providing a longer battery life; nevertheless, 12 hours is more than enough for everyone.
I would be surprised if you thought that the Zhiyun Smooth 4 is a very expensive device. The good news is that it is not. After being on the market for years, the device’s manufacturers have dropped the Smooth 4 price significantly. Now it is available for $99.
Zhiyun Smooth 4 Shortcomings 🤔
The gimbal seems to be a great piece of equipment, so there is still a question why I did not choose it to be the best handheld gimbal. Well, after testing this device, I realized that there were still a few issues that were bothering me when shooting.
I did not find it comfortable working with this gimbal for a long time. Its handgrip is wide and slightly clumsy, so you are getting tired of using it for a long time.
For me, the gimbal seemed slightly complicated, as it is featuring too many buttons. It was confusing and it took a while until I finally got accustomed to this gimbal. In addition to it, I realized that I did not need to use nearly 50% of all those buttons when filming. I found it more convenient to change the settings by using my iPhone. Therefore, I feel that the Zhiyun Smooth 4 is carrying unnecessary ballast.
What is found the most surprising is that despite having all those buttons, this gimbal did not have a simple joystick. I was not able to electronically control the pan and tilt. I do not think that it is a big deal, as I like doing this with my hands. But in case this is something that you consider important, be aware that the joystick is not available on the Zhiyun Smooth 4.

Freefly Movi Cinema Robot: Best For Cinematographers
The Freefly Movi Cinema Robot used to be a good gimbal, both in terms of its video stabilization quality and software. Nevertheless, the Movi released has been discontinued for some reason. The gimbal might be found available for sale at certain places, so we can still consider the device in this guide.
- Superior stabilization
- U-Shape design
- Excellent smartphone app
- Too big
- High price
- Some features are too specific for a regular filmmaker
Who Is Freefly Movi Cinema Robot Ideal User?
The first thing that you need to know about the Freefly Movi Cinema Robot is that it is not cheap, like other gimbals that I have described in this guide earlier. Nevertheless, it provides a good stabilization quality, being a 3-axes gimbal. Its Movi App makes the device a good gimbal not only for regular filmmakers but also for cinematographers. The app allows users to perform various advanced “tricks”.
What Is Freefly Movi Cinema Robot Compatible With?
The Movi features high compatibility with almost all available smartphone models, as it supports the devices with a total weight of up to 500 grams. Therefore, the gimbal is compatible with the latest models of iPhone that are relatively heavy, and also bigger Android devices.
What Is Movi In General Terms?
The U-shape of the gimbal makes it possible to hold the device with two hands while shooting. I always find this opportunity very convenient, as it helps you not to get tired during the long shoots. Moreover, it provides extra stability.
The Movi’s stabilization performance is, of course, great, and it makes sense to expect this from a gimbal in this price category.
What makes the Movi Cinema Robot special is its app. The Movi App stands out among many gimbal software, as it is well-developed. Also, it offers a lot of cinematic presents.
The 2600mAh Lithium-Ion batteries enable the gimbal to work for up to 8 hours. This gimbal’s battery life is shorter than that of other devices, listed on this page. However, please, note, that this device can support heavier phones that makes its motors work harder, and, consequently, consume more energy.
There are also a few possibilities of further improving your gimbal. By attaching the Movi Hoodie accessory mount, you can attach flashes and shotgun mics to the gimbal.
I liked the ergonomic design of the Movi gimbal. It is fun to shoot videos while using both hands, it allows you to the pan and tilts your gimbal easier. The gimbal also features a sturdy rubber base that makes it possible to use the gimbal without a tripod on any flat surface.
The Movie Cinema Robot does a great job with video stabilization performance. Their app is working steadily, not featuring any bugs or problems. You can easily change all settings, including changing the exposure or quickly flipping through previews of your recordings, without even touching your smartphone. There are a lot of tricks that might be specifically interesting for the videographers.
Weak Points 😐
The device might seem a bit too big and even awkward. This is definitely not your device if you are not a professional filmmaker.
What I did not like the most about the Freefly Movi Cinema Robot gimbal is its unreasonably high price. This gimbal is much more expensive than other devices on the list. I do not think that it makes sense to pay $300 for a device that is featuring almost the same qualities as other good gimbals. However, if you are particularly looking for some specific cinematographic tricks, the Freefly Movi Cinema Robot is the device that you should consider.

Zhiyun Smooth Q2: The Best Compact Phone Gimbal
Combined with smartphones’ built-in stabilization qualities, the Zhiyun Smooth Q2 is able to deliver perfectly smooth video footage. It also could be used for taking pictures, especially those that require extra stability – for example, passport photos.
- Impressive stabilization
- Good battery
- Durable build quality
- Ergonomic design
- Too simplistic control panel
- Fixed motor speed
- Slightly more expensive than the competitors
Who Is Zhiyun Smooth Q2 For?
This phone gimbal is a perfect stabilizer for those, who are looking for a compact and small device to produce buttery smooth video footage. The Zhiyun Smooth Q2 is good not only for vloggers and social media celebrities. It can also become a decent stabilization gimbal for most people, who frequently shoot the videos using a smartphone.
Even though the gimbal is very small, it can support mobile devices with a total weight of up to 260 grams. Smooth Q2’s payload is very impressive, making it one of the most durable and powerful stabilizers available in the market. No surprise that the best compact gimbal is compatible with all models of smartphones.
Zhiyun Smooth Q2 Quick Overview
Straight out of the box, the gimbal impressed me with its build quality. The device’s body is made from a combination of plastic and aluminum. The stabilizer looks stylish. What is important to note is that this gimbal, despite its small size, is slightly heavier than the rest of its competitors.
In terms of design, the Zhiyun Smooth Q2 is very minimalistic, even too simple. The handgrip features only a few necessary buttons and a joystick. The gimbal does not have any other tool allowing zooming the footage in and out without using the phone software.
The Zhiyun Smooth Q2 is not the cheapest gimbal in the market, yet, it is very affordable. Its recommended price is $139, which is slightly more expensive than most of its competitors.
Zhiyun Smooth Q2 Advantages 🤩
The strong point of this best gimbal for the phone is its battery. You can film up to 17 hours at a single charge. The stabilizer can also be used as a power bank. Therefore, you could be filming all day and charging your phone simultaneously.
Being one of the smallest smartphone gimbals, the Zhiyun Smooth Q2 provides one the best stabilization performances. Its motors are very strong, but also very quiet. The only problem is that the motor’s speed cannot be increased. Therefore, the stabilizer does not feature any kind of sports mode, since filming the fast-paced action is not an option here. Otherwise, the gimbal has five shooting modes.
What Could Be Better? 😐
While this device is definitely one the best smartphone gimbals, there are still qualities that it clearly misses. At times, all filmmakers need to use fast-paced modes during the shoots. And more often, we need to zoom in and zoom out without touching our phones’ screens.
I found these two things especially uncomfortable about ⏩ Zhiyun Smooth Q2.
A few other Handheld Gimbals
Feiyu Tech Vimble 2
There is one thing special about Feiyu Tech Vimble 2: an 18cm extendable arm that lets you record selfies or low-angle shots. However, its buggy app and a weak battery lasting up to 5 hours make it impossible to recommend this gimbal, since there are better devices featured in the same price category.
Evo Pro Stabilizer
Evo Pro Gimbal is the best stabilizer device released by Evo Gimbals American company. In reality, this gimbal is Zhiyun Smooth 4 released under a new name. It is good since Smooth 4 is a great stabilization device. Moreover, you can get local support assistance if you run into some problems while using your gimbal. However, note that Evo Pro is about $20 more expensive than its original model.
Freevision VILTA Mobile
The Freevision VILTA Mobile is a decent gimbal to look at. Its ergonomic design is similar to DJI Osmo Mobile 2, with its handgrip being even comfier. Nevertheless, its stabilization quality is not the best. You can particularly notice it when looking at zoomed-in footage.
With so many handheld gimbals available in the market for low prices, it might be difficult to choose the best handheld gimbal. Nevertheless, there are clear winners of the every-day competition. With DJI OM4 being the best handheld gimbal ever, you could still consider purchasing another device that would satisfy your more special needs.
